Enabling Informed Decisions in Breast Cancer through Information Technologies Issue #1 November 2016

Dear subscriber,
“We aim to support the collaborative work of Breast Units”   This is the 1st issue of the official newsletter of the DESIREE project, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 project. We are a group of multidisciplinary partners (hospitals, small and large companies, universities, R&D centers) that work together in the exciting field of digital data representation and exploitation to improve treatment and follow-up in Primary Breast Cancer.

We aim to develop a set of connected software tools, what we call a software ecosystem to support the collaborative work of Breast Units (also known as tumor boards), the multidisciplinary clinical committee that routinely meet to take decisions on patient cancer cases.
These tools will provide decision support in the personalized, collaborative and multidisciplinary management of Primary Breast Cancer by an advanced digital, heterogeneous and integrative data representation, exploitation and visualization..

Via this newsletter you will be periodically receiving news, articles, and in-depth information about our project progress and outcomes, and any other relevant information that applies at the time of the publication. We will present the relevant activities undertaken by DESIREE, describing the project developments, our findings and the results that will be reached step-by-step. The newsletter will provide exclusive contents as well as a summary and extension of other information distributed through other types of digital media or social networks.

We wish that you find this newsletter interesting and interact with us in relation to this exciting endeavor

We will always have Paris!
We will always have Paris!

A few weeks ago, the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the DESIREE project consortium was held at the INSERM – LIMICS laboratory in the Cordeliers campus of Paris 6 University in the beautiful city of Paris. Our impression after this meeting is that many more aspects regarding our developments and challenges in our joint venture are much more clearly and sufficiently understood by everyone.

Conferences and Events
Conferences & Events

The project research outputs will be discussed and disseminated through several types of conferences and events. In that scope, the DESIREE project made its initial opening to the scientific community, by holding a dedicated Symposium with the title: Multiscale modeling and decision support applied to breast cancer management: DESIREE project. The Symposium was held on May 25th, in the framework of the 6th Annual International Conference in Computational Surgery and Dual Training (COSINE6) in Bordeaux, France.

Later on, DESIREE project was invited to the eHealth Week 2016. We participated with a presentation in the Speakers Corner on 9th June, by the Project Coordinator, Dr Ivan Macia. We have already scheduled our presence in the new HIMSS Europe World of Health IT (WoHIT) Conference & Exhibition that will be taking place on 21–22 November 2016 in Barcelona, Spain and we are active, identifying the next big events that we will choose in order to present our work.

Multi-channel Communication

Since we have been blogging here for a while it would only be fair to explain the context in which this blog post subscribes. In other words we should try and give a general idea of our communication philosophy and modus operandi. For all the changes that have taken place in recent years in the communication industry, there is a famous phrase that still holds true and even applies to this modern era of diversified communication in a more accurate way
