Technological and Data-driven Innovations in Cancer Care

Multi-forum exposure for DESIREE outcomes in Cordoba

Place:
Cordoba, Spain
Date:
Friday, June 7, 2019

The organization of the 32th IEEE CBMS International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems in Cordoba, Spain on 5-7 June 2019, attracted a lot of attention by the technological communities of experts in medical innovations. The Symposium itself offered significant opportunities for exposure especially to EU funded research projects, with distinct Project track sessions and a Special co-organized Cancer Technology Track: Technological and Data-Driven Innovations in Cancer Care.

Moreover, other adjacent Symposiums, such as the 2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium which was organized one day ahead of CBMS, allowed for discussions, collaborations and synergies providing a unified perspective of related technological project outcomes.

The DESIREE Coordination team and other consortium members exploited all available opportunities, presenting and demonstration DESIREE technologies and results.

  • 4 June 2019 – Invited talk at 2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium

One day ahead of the IEEE Symposium CBMS 2019, Ivan Macia, DESIREE Project Coordinator, was an invited speaker at 2nd Big Data for Precision Medicine Symposium. This was a full day event taking place on Tuesday 4 June 2019 in Cordoba, Spain, at IMIBIC Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía. The Symposium, organized by the iASiS Project, brings together European and National projects working with big data to pave the way for more personalised diagnosis and treatment approaches.

  • 5 June 2019 – Invited talk & Demo at 32th IEEE CBMS International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems

The 32th IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (IEEE CBMS2019) was held at Instituto Maimónides de Investigación Biomédica de Córdoba, Córdoba, Spain, from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th of June 2019. Attracting a worldwide audience, CBMS is the premier conference for computer-based medical systems, and one of the main conferences within the fields of medical informatics and biomedical informatics. CBMS allows the exchange of ideas and technologies between academic and industrial scientists.

On 5th June, Day 1, Naiara Muro from the DESIREE Coordination team, presented and demonstrated DESIREE within Research project Track.

  • 7 June 2019 – Co-organization of the Special Track “Technological and Date-Driven Innovations in Cancer Care”, under CBMS 2019

This track was a combined effort from 4 EU funded projects: CATCH ITN, DESIREE, The eSMART and BOUNCE. All four demonstrate aspects of pioneering research that is now being conducted in the field of technology for cancer care.

Evidently, as researchers involved in the creation of novel technologies for cancer care, we must consider and share both the innovative concepts being developed, and also how they are being assessed and accepted in real-world or clinical situations. This track aims to address both these themes through four originals studies to be presented in the session.

N. Muro, Vicomtech, chaired the Sessions, while 2 scientific papers were published on DESIREE experience.

Given the success of the CBMS 2019 session, Organizers announced that Tech4Cancer will repeat the meeting at BIBE 2019 in Athens, Greece, from 28th to 30th of October.
