Vicomtech is an applied research centre for Multimedia, Communication and Visual Computing Technologies located in San Sebastian (Spain). Vicomtech is a non-profit foundation established in 2001. Vicomtech has a strong record in ICT technology transfer and applied research with companies (more than 90% of them are SMEs) in different sectors. Vicomtech is member and co-leader of the ICT Unit of the IK4 Research Alliance, the Basque technological alliance of Applied R&D Centres with more than 1400 researchers (24% PhD) and more than 83 million Euros in EU FP7 projects in the period 2007-2013. Vicomtech is also part of the GraphicsMedia.net international alliance, specialised in applied research with organisations in the fields of ICT, Computer Graphics and Digital Media, with several partners in Germany, Portugal, Italy, Spain and Panama.
Among its 105 employees, more than 80 are researchers (30 PhD) dedicated to the field of applied research. The role of Vicomtech in the market is to supply society with technology by transfer of primary research to industry through collaborative R&D&I projects. Vicomtech’s main research lines lay in the fields of multimedia, computer graphics and interaction technologies, which Vicomtech applies in multiple sectors. The main research group that will contribute to the execution of the project is the Industry and Advanced Manufacturing department.
Vicomtech has researchers with a strong experience on several fields of ICT, especially in Communications, Multimedia and Visual Computing. Due to the direct contact to several industries from different sectors (Engineering, Transport, Medical, etc.), the researchers are experts in bringing innovation to the companies with the latest advances in research.
Vicomtech is part of the board of coordinators of the C2 group (Independent Living) of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP-AHA).
The Department of eHealth and Biomedical Applications of Vicomtech has more than 10 years’ experience in the research and development of graphics, imaging, computer vision, interaction, information and artificial intelligence technology for the medical, clinical, health, biology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. We closely cooperate with clinical institutions and industrial partners in the research and development of technologies, prototypes and products for computer-assisted diagnosis, therapy planning, intervention and follow-up, hospital information management, clinical decision support,
support for biomedical research and clinical studies, telemedicine and home care and assistive technologies.
Vicomtech is also an associated member of the Biodonostia Health Research Institute (http://www.biodonostia.org/en/who-we-are/entities/), one of the top ten clinical research institutions in Spain associated to Donostia University Hospital.
